Empire of the Sun are stepping into the festival world with the launch of Chrysalis Music Festival, a three-day experience taking place May 14–16, 2026, at the scenic Izkali Gardens at Hotel El Ganzo in San José del Cabo, Mexico.
A symbolic journey crafted by Empire of the Sun
Rather than unveiling a full lineup, the duo is introducing Chrysalis with a strong artistic narrative.
Co-founder Luke Steele shared that the festival is built around a sequence of symbolic elements — the Door, the Key, the Bell, Wings, and the Egg.
These symbols, he says, form a “secret language” that guides the festival’s creative direction, representing thresholds, revelations, awakenings, future selves, and new beginnings.
According to Steele, Chrysalis aims to take attendees “on a journey through music, art, and spirit — a moment to let yourself be carried away in a world full of noise.”
Three performances by Empire of the Sun
While the full lineup remains under wraps, it has been confirmed that Empire of the Sun will headline all three days, delivering a unique performance each night. This alone has generated substantial excitement among fans who have long admired the duo’s theatrical live shows and visionary storytelling.
A look back at the duo’s evolution
Formed in 2007, Empire of the Sun quickly rose to global recognition with their debut album Walking on a Dream, featuring hits like “We Are The People.” Their distinct blend of electronic pop and cinematic aesthetics has carried through four albums, including their most recent release, Ask That God (2024).
