A serious safety incident occurred late Friday night at the Metropol nightclub in Berlin, where part of a ceiling-mounted chandelier came loose and struck attendees on the dance floor. The accident happened at roughly 10:30 p.m. on November 28, during a set by German DJ and producer David Puentez.
Eyewitnesses reported that a lightbulb and its socket detached from the overhead fixture and fell directly into the audience.
A 30-year-old woman sustained a head injury significant enough to require hospitalization, while a male guest received a cut to his upper arm.
Clubgoers quickly alerted staff, who shut down the music and cleared the area beneath the damaged chandelier. After assessing the situation, management decided to cancel the remainder of the event as a precaution.
In an Instagram story addressing the situation, Metropol stated:
“We are sorry that there was an incident during the event with David Puentez on Friday, in which people were also injured.”
David Puentez also shared a message online, explaining that the performance had to end early to ensure everyone’s safety and expressing his wishes for a fast recovery to the individuals hurt in the incident.
Authorities have not released additional details, but the situation has sparked renewed concerns about structural safety and maintenance inside busy nightlife venues.
